Stars in the skies

Working at home most of the day. The garden was pretty quiet bird-wise, although at 1300 there was suddenly a spiral of Black-headed gulls visible over Court Rd. It looked as though they were thermaling. They were visible for about 5 minutes and then they drifted away. 2 Jackdaws passed through the garden briefly later in the afternoon.

In the evening went with my wife Sue to Royal Observatory at Greenwich for a Valentines evening star watch. The evening began with a presentation on the night sky and what we could expect to see. This was excellent.

We then went onto visit the largest lens telescope in UK. We were supposed to be able to use it to look at the moon but the cloud scuppered that idea. Then we went onto get a drink and go outside to another telescope to look at Jupiter and its moons. Although it kept hiding in the clouds did get a good look at planet and its moons

The view from the observatory is spectacular and haven’t seen it before at night
