I am semi-retired after a career in medical sciences. I now work from home doing independent research and consultancy amongst other things. One advantage of this is that I do have time to indulge my interests including birdwatching, natural history, steam trains and history particularly ancient history.

Great photos! I absolutely love this museum. It’s one of my favourite in London and I was surprised how much stuff it had on ancient Rome. Its sections on the London fire were really good too.
Its very well laid out and tells the story of London well but I must confess to the British Museum being my favourite but then what would you expect from someone who cut his teeth on Middle Eastern history and archaeology.
I couldn’t agree more! I felt bad, I visited London knowing that the British Museum would be the best one, to the point where I barely bothered with others…it was a silly mistake!
There are so many museums in London. I have lived here all my life (54 years) and a couple of months ago I was returning from a birding walk around Regents Park and found The Sherlock Holmes Museum – never even knew it existed before then. Passed it yesterday and there was a queue outside so obviously popular. It is on the list to visit – out of season
Sounds interesting! I will definitely write it down for my next visit! Thanks!
