And the wind blew, but the butterflies still flew.

A cool, windy, overcast day did not bode well for a visit to Hutchinson’s Bank in search of butterflies.

In fact, rather surprisingly, there were quite a few on the wing but all were either Meadow Brown or Marbled White

We did find a Common Spotted Orchid

We had a single Red Admiral and as we approached the end of our walk on the lower track, we found a Skipper (either Essex or Small). These are often difficult to separate. I ran the picture through 2 photo id systems – one identified it as Small and the other as Essex!

So despite the wind and the cool, still plenty of butterflies on the wing.
