Jersey Tiger Moth

This summer has been an excellent year for the Jersey Tiger. Butterfly Conservation have recently announced that the number recorded by half way through the national Big Butterfly Count has already exceeded to the total recorded for last year.

This day flying moth is very conspicuous with its Black and White upper wing and its yellow-orange underwing and so often recorded in gardens during the day. Once a rare migrant to southern coast, it has in the past 20 years become established in Devon, Dorset and SE England including London.
