Naturelog: Monday 20th May

Things still quite busy so have not had much time for birdwatching. But today I had sometime at home and then stopped at Southend Pond on the way to an appointment. Southend Pond used to be the boating lake of an entertainment park near to where I grew up. It was pretty shabby and run down even when I was a kid and eventually they had to close it down (for safety reasons I would guess). Now all that is left is the boating lake which is now part of the DIY superstore which was built on the site

All in all a pretty quite day. On my way out I went via the Tarn and it seems that we have collected another Muscovy Duck. This time a rather odd looking female. Usually they come in either black and white or all white but this one has a standard neck and head and a brown body which makes me wonder if it is a crossbreed with some other domestic species.

Southend Pond had the usual ducks and geese but otherwise was quite.

Dull and overcast so no butterflies. Will they ever get the chance to fly?
