The sunflower galaxy (aka M63/NGC5055) is a spiral galaxy consisting of a central disc surrounded by two short arms. One of these arms contains a large supernova. As a galaxy it has many similarities to our own. it is between 20 and 40 million light years from Earth and is only visible through the telescope.
