Today’s pictures are of the Eagle Nebula (M16/NGC6611). It is 7000 light years from earth and has large areas of dust and gas with a number of star forming regions.
The Nebula is one of the most photographed by astronomers especially since the amazing photographs taken by the Hubble telescope (http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/newsdesk/archive/releases/1995/44/image/b)
