Thames Journey (2): Billingsgate

DSCN4915a

One of the major buildings on the north side of the river between London and Tower bridge is the old Billingsgate fish market. The original fish market was held in the surrounding streets but it 1850 it was moved into a building on the river front. This building was replaced by the current building in 1873. The fish market relocated to Canary Wharf in 1982 and the old market building was redeveloped as office accommodation and more recently as an events and exhibition location.
