The Manor House Cannons

Standing in front of the Manor House Library at Lee are two cannons. They are French Naval 6-pounders made in 1764. It is believed they came from a captured French vessel which sank whilst being towed up the Thames and were salvaged from the wreck. Originally used as bollards at the Armoury Mills site in Lewisham, they were presented to the Borough of Lewisham in 1963. The carriages were built by students at Lewisham College in 2001.
