Hutchinson’s bank in June

It had been some weeks now since our first visit to Hutchinson’s bank. We had intended going in early June, but the poor weather interfered. Well it couldn’t have been more different last Friday as the temperature was 15C at 10 am when we arrived. We walked our usual circuit and the star in the cutting was a group of Marbled Whites along with Meadow Browns and Small Heaths. A single Fritillary, most likely a Glanville flew through but did not stop.

Meadow Browns turned out to be the predominant species for the day although we did find a couple of Small Blues at the far end of our circuit and on the lower path encountered a couple of Large Whites and a Comma.

A nice walk but had hoped for more butterfly wise but I imagine the recent bad weather has not helped their survival.
