A trip to the London Wetland Centre in search of late summer dragonflies and butterflies last week.
Lots of Migrant Hawkers and Common Darters were present around the ponds and lakes. Also seen were a couple of Emperor Dragonflies, a Ruddy Darter and singles of Blue-tailed Damselfly, Common Blue Damselfly and an Emerald Damselfly.
Sadly whilst the Dragonflies did their bit, the butterflies were disappointing with only 2 Small Whites and a Meadow Brown seen.
Still one thing about wildlife watching is you can always be surprised. I was not expecting to see much in terms of birds as many of our summer visitors have left and the winter ones are yet to arrive, But did see a Green Sandpiper and was treated to 30 minutes of a Eurasian Hobby hunting Dragonflies over the marsh with its wonderful aerobatic skills.
