It’s a Pleasaunce!

Dropped in to Well Hall Pleasaunce one morning as it has been some time since I visited this site. Well Hall Pleasaunce is the gardens of an old house which dates back to Tudor times. A later house was the home of author EE Nesbitt of Railway Children fame, Most of the house was demolished at the beginning of the last century and the gardens were converted into a public part. The only part of the House that remains is the Tudor Barn, which is now a restaurant and event venue.

The Pleasaunce is made up of areas of formal gardens and some wilder areas including a small stream, the moat of the old house and a pond.

Among the species seen on previous trips have been Coal tit and Goldcrest as well as the more common parkland birds. On this visit I did get a good view of a Coal Tit, although it was brief as it scuttled away into the depths of tree cover, I could not locate any Goldcrests. The other highlight was two squabbling Jays who could be heard from a long way off. On the moat were a number of pairs of mallard and Moorhen,
