Single Form is a bronze sculpture by Barbara Hepworth. It is her largest work, and the original is located outside the Dag Hammarskjold Library at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York where it was installed in 1964. It was a memorial to the UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold after his death in an air crash in 1961. Hammarskjöld was a collector of Hepworth’s works and during his life he had discussed with Hepworth the possibility of her being commissioned for a work at the United Nations Headquarters.
This copy of the original is found in Battersea, where it was originally installed for an open air sculpture exhibition in 1963.
