On my recent visit to Well Hall I found some sculptures that I hadn’t noticed before. They are on the site of the Old House and represent Characters from E Nesbit’s books. Edith Nesbitt lived in the house at Well Hall from 1899 until 1920.

Dragons appear in many of E Nesbitt’s books including The Book of Beasts and The Last of the Dragons.

The Phoenix
The Phoenix is a magical creature capable of granting wishes from E Nesbitt’s Phoenix and the Carpet

Psammead
The Psammead, or Sand Fairy, was another magical creature capable of granting wishes. It appears in E Nesbitt’s book 5 Children and It
The sculptures are all carved from Sweet Chestnut by Reece Ingram in 2013.
