This memorial to the 24th Division, British Army in the first world war is in Battersea Park. The Division was formed in September 1914 and disbanded in 1919. It is estimated that in those 4 years on the Western Front the division lost over 35,000 men killed, wounded or missing.

The sculptor was Eric Kennington, who had himself served in the British Army, before becoming a War Artist. He undertook the commission for the memorial but refused any payment and covered the costs himself. It was unveiled on 4 October 1924.
