I wrote a week or so ago about the influx of Glossy Ibis’ into the UK in recent weeks. Last Friday I finally had the opportunity to see one of these visitors, which had taken up residence at the London Wetland Centre.

So when Keith and I arrived we made our way straight to the Peacock Tower. The Ibis had been seen earlier in the day, but at that time we arrived it was out of sight. So it was a case of wait and watch the small pool where it had been seen. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long and the bird moved into the pool as it looked for another meal of frog, which seems to be its favourite food since it arrived at the centre.

After we had seen the Ibis we moved onto the scrape and found a Green Sandpiper, but we were not able to find the 2 Garganey that had been seen on the main lake.
