A walk around the Tarn produced the usual cast of Characters. The drake Teal was still present with a group of Mallard at the west end together with a good number of Geese, Egyptian, Greylag and Canada.

I was surprised that when I reached the bridge there was a drake Teal in the area between the bridge and the Golf Course. this one seemed far less confident than our resident one, skulking in the undergrowth. Was this a second Teal or had the resident one slipped past me as I walked up the Lake.

I hurried back to the eastern end and sure enough there was still a drake teal there, where I had seen it originally with its group of Mallards. So now we have two Teal wintering on the Tarn. It will be interesting on my next visit to see if it was just passing through or is still present and if it is whether he finds the other Teal that is there.

It was good to see that the first signs of spring were evident, both in the flowers starting to show and in the noticeable increase in bird song.
