Birdlog: Thursday14th March (2)

On returning home from the Wetland Centre, I took the opportunity for a walk around the Tarn. In addition to the usual cast- at the east end of the Tarn there was an adult Grey Heron.

On my return trip I was surprised to find a Canada goose x Greylag goose cross-breed. One has been present since last summer intermittently but the surprising thing was that this bird was not with its parents to whom it kept quite close during its time here. This bird was in the company of three Canada Geese. I thought initially that it had finally decided to leave his parents.

However walking further on, I was surprised to find another such bird (the original one) keeping close company with a Canada and a greylag goose

So it appears we now have two of these crossbreeds on the Tarn and one can only speculate as to the origin of the new bird. I wonder if this pair of bread together before and this is the offspring from a previous year.
