By the third century there is a clear change in the mosaics found in the Palace. Gone are the black-and-white geometrics to be replaced by polychrome mosaics and a mixture of both geometric patterns and pictorial depictions.
This is a third century mosaic and it has been suggested that the missing central panel may have contained either an image of a fish a dolphin or peacock.
This ‘Knot mosaic’ depicts Solomon’s knot surrounded by braided coloured strands. This was in a room which had an underfloor heating system.
