A break away from British wildlife today to look at one of my favourite duck species. The black bellied whistling duck is found in the extreme south of the USA, Central America and the north and central portions of South America. They inhabit freshwater ponds, lakes and marshland and are a common species which can sometimes be found resident in urban parks. They have a reputation for being very tame even in the wild. My first encounter with the species was on my first morning in Texas, when I opened the curtains to see a group on the lake below my window. O that all birding could be simple as that!
