The Pied Avocet (known commonly as the Avocet) was once an uncommon breeding bird in the UK, limited to a single colony on an island off the coast of East Anglia, Due to protection and conservation it is now a common sight on our wetland habitats. It’s story was such a successful one that it was adopted as the symbol of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
