I am not sure if I have mentioned it before but I like to have a focus for each year to run alongside my general wildlife watching and monitoring activities. This year it was a target to see 200 different species of birds in the UK in 2022. So how have I got on?

With one 6-day trip to Norfolk remaining and a few days free when I return I currently stand at 186. Now 14 might not seem a large number, but as the year goes on it becomes more and more challenging to see new species and so whilst it is possible, it is going to be touch and go whether I make it by December 31st. Still, let’s see how it goes.

In the meantime, I have included some photos of some of the year’s highlights so far. These include 2 new bird species for my UK list, Pallid Swift and Sabine’s Gull, both seen in the past 4 weeks and a number of new moths for my UK list..
