I always wondered what a Post Mill was so it was good to be able to visit this example in Suffolk. The name comes from the fact that the top of the mill revolves around a central post so that it can be moved in order to work in whatever direction the wind is blowing.

Although records show there has been a mill on this site since 1287, the current mill dates from at least 1796. It continued to work as a mill until 1947 and was given into state care in 1951. It was extensively refurbished in 1957-60 and again in 2017-21.
