Winter walk

A crisp, cold, sunny winter day and time for a walk around the Tarn to see whether there are any new arrivals alongside our resident winter wildfowl.

The Tarn looks really good in this bright winter sun, but there are signs of the damage caused by the recent storms.

The water level remains high and the islands are partially submerged.

It was good to see that there were plenty of wildfowl present with good numbers of Coot, Moorhen, Canada Geese and Mallard. In amongst the latter was the Drake Teal which has made its home with them for the past two winters. Also present were a few Greylag Geese and a couple of Tufted Ducks. In the woodland, it was nice to see a Nuthatch as I haven’t recorded one on site for a couple of years.
