A stroll in the park

I had to go into Sidcuo at the end of last week and so took the opportunity afterwards to have a walk around Lamorbey Park.

I had hoped for some winter thrushes but was unable to find any. On the lake were 8 Canada Goose, 40 Mallard along with Moorhen, Coot and Black-headed Gulls. Two stock Doves on the bank were an unexpected sighting. Various common woodland birds were present in the woods.

So I made my way back towards the entrance but stopped to listen to some bird song about 100m from the gate. Suddenly a small bird flew into the tree, just by my arm. when it emerged it was a Goldcrest. It was so close that I dared not move for fear of chasing it off, so I just stood for a few minutes and watched it as it made it’s way around the branches. It was so close that I felt I could have reached out and touched it. Eventually, it flew off into another tree and was lost to sight.

I then turned my attention back to the bird song and could hear a Nuthtach calling from a nearby tree.

So an exciting end to my walk. I wonder what this park is like for Butterflies and Dragonflies. Will have to come back and have a look in the summer.
