The calm after the storms

Having experienced two major storms (Isha and Jocelyn) in quick succession, I was keen to get down to the Tarn to check if the wildlife had been affected and whether there had been any further damage (several trees had come down in a previous storm). Thankfully we seem not to have lost any more trees, just a few small branches down.

The Tarn looked wonderful in the winter sun. There were good numbers of Greylag and Canada Geese, along with Coot, Moorhen, Mallard and Tufted Duck. The drake Eurasian Teal which has wintered here for two years with the Mallard was still present.

There wasn’t much activity in the woodland although Blue and Great Tits could be heard calling along with Robins. A single Wren was a nice sighting as more often than not they are heard but not seen.
