After I visited the British Museum (See Tuesday’s post), I went to Hyde Park to see if I could find the group of mandarin Duck which had been seen there for the previous few days. It is believed they have relocated from the Regent’s Canal where, I understand, there has been oil pollution from the dumping of used cooking oil into the water.

The usual residents were there as I walked down from Lancaster gate towards the bridge.

I was beginning to think I would be out of luck when I spotted a drake Mandarin Duck skulking in the vegetation on the other side of the Long Water. In fact, there were 3 males and a female that showed themselves eventually.

Glad that I got to see this attractive duck and that they are safer here than they would be on the canal at present. I hope they catch whoever dumped that oil.
And as I couldn’t get any closer to the birds I saw today, here is a good picture from the archives.
