When I was doing my local patch walk last week, I noticed a Bee behaving rather strangely, so I took a photograph of it. When I looked at the photo later I could see why as it was being held by a Crab Spider. Despite being white on a blue flower, I just hadn’t seen the spider when watching in the field.
I am semi-retired after a career in medical sciences. I now work from home doing independent research and consultancy amongst other things. One advantage of this is that I do have time to indulge my interests including birdwatching, natural history, steam trains and history particularly ancient history.

Crab spiders are amazingly good at hiding in plain sight, and at catching bees. I’ve occasionally found them with bumble bee queens.
