Winter visitor or just passing through?

A bright sunny morning and a walk around the Tarn. There were good numbers of Mallard, Coot, Moorhen and Greylag Goose. Surprisingly no Tufted Duck were present.

The Grey Squirrels were very active and this one watched me from its perch as I went past. I am not sure what it was holding but it was holding it tight.

At the golf course end I found a male and female Eurasian Teal. We have had a single male bird overwinter on the Tarn the past two winters. Last winter he arrived with a female but she only stayed a few days before moving on. Is this the same bird? Will they stay for the winter or are they just passing through? Time will tell.
