A New Year begins

First walk of the year around the Tarn. I was greeted by a very friendly Robin, one of a number seen or heard during my walk.

The usual selection of wildfowl was on the Tarn including Mallard, Tufted Duck, Coot, Moorhen and Egyptian Goose.

The male Eurasian Teal that was present prior to Christmas was still present, but has now been joined by 2 Females. When I first saw the male across the other water on the south side he was on his own. But by the time I reached the south side he had moved to be with a female Mallard. This makes me think that this may well be the same male Teal that has wintered here for a few years, who seems to be much fonder of female Mallard than any female Teal that are around.

The Geese were grazing on the south side and accompanied me as I walked along that side.

A good start to the year
