A Saturday morning trip to Brookmill Park in Lewisham, a good site for seeing Kingfisher. This small park runs alongside the River Ravensbourne, allowing excellent views of the River.

There were a good number of Mallard and Moorhen present along the River plus some on the small lake in the park. Robins were also numerous with some singing and others collecting nesting material, a sure sign that spring is on the way. Also present were 4 Egyptian Geese, 2 Redwing and a Great Spotted Woodpecker, which was loudly drumming on the trees on the riverbank. Blackbird, Blue and Great Tits, Wren and Dunnock were also seen

One surprise was finding a grey heron sitting on a nest, as I wasn’t aware that there were nesting here. It’s partner was busy fishing on the side of the water.

Unfortunately there was no sign of a Kingfisher during my walk, but on the way back to Lewisham station, I did see a Grey Wagtail on another part of the river.
