In search of a Kingfisher-Take 2

A bright sunny spring morning and a chance to check out some local spots for Kingfisher. My first stop was manor House Gardens in Lee. There is a lake and a section of the Quaggy River in the park.

No sign of any Kingfishers either on the lake or the river, but there was a lot of activity in the Heronry, where 5 or 6 nests appeared occupied.

Canada Geese, Mute Swan, Coot, Mallard and Egyptian Geese were all present.

From here it was a short walk to Manor Park, which runs alongside the Quaggy River.

Lots of Robins and Great Tits singing but no Kingfisher.

Finally onto Brookmill Park in Lewisham, which I visited back in January This park runs alongside the River Ravensbourne and has been a good spot for Kingfisher in past years.

Little had changed since my last visit although now there was plenty of bird song and nest building activity to see. The Grey Herons had left their nest and at first I was concerned that it had failed or been predated, but on my return walk along the river, there were two young in the nest.

One of the adults was standing on the river bank and the other had found a perch on the side of the canalated section.

But still no Kingfisher!
