Exciting news as it was announced that there is to be a White Stork reintroduction programme in a Dagenham Country Park. It is hoped that this will lead to the first breeding of this species in London for around 600 years.

The White Stork was once a common species in Britain before becoming extinct in the 1400s and subsequently only migrant birds were seen in the UK until the establishment of a re-introduced breeding colony at Knepp in Sussex in 2016 (https://petesfavouritethings.blog/2022/08/04/rewilding-knepp/). The new site in London will be at Eastbrookend Country Park in Dagenham and the reintroduction will begin in Autumn 2027.
This site is also going to be the location for a Beaver reintroduction programme beginning early next year.
