Last week Keith and I went to Leybourne Lakes Country Park at New Hythe. It was a bright sunny day and that boded well for seeing Butterflies and other invertebrates as well as looking for Nightingales and Cuckoos.

We made our way to the Railway scrub and soon we were being serenaded by a number of Nightingales, all well hidden in the vegetation. We did see one briefly when it flew from one bush to another.

In the ditch bordering the scrub, there were a number of Hairy Dragonfly together with Azure Damselfly and Common Blue Damselfly.

On the scrub we found Dingy and Grizzled Skipper and some wonderful Green Hairstreak.

Overhead we saw 2 Hobbies and as we left the scrub area a Downy Emerald Dragonfly.

We recorded 35 species of birds, the highlights of which were the Nightingales and the Hobbies; 10 species of Butterflies, the highlight of which were the Dingy Skipper and the beautiful Green Hairstreaks and 6 species of Dragonfly. A really good day.
