Following a SW gale all night my first stop today was at Selsey bill, which is at the southern end of the Selsey peninsular jutting out into the channel. Surprisingly, given the conditions, there was little bird movement with some Gannets, Red-breasted Mergansers and a Sandwich Tern being the total count for me. Did find 2 Northern Wheatear however on the beach and a Peregrine Falcon flew over.
Moved back to RSPB reserve at Pagham for the afternoon. The cast was very similar to a few days ago but an unexpected bonus was a Little Gull was found resting on the Ferry pool. This small ‘tern-like’ gull is uncommon in SE England and so it was a lovely sighting.
