Naturelog: Friday 12th July

A trip to the Wetland Centre at Barnes. Although it was fairly quiet for birds the grounds were in full bloom and it was a good day for Butterflies and dragonflies.

The bird highlights were a Common Sandpiper and two Little Ringed Plovers (Unfortunately they do not seem to have been successful breeders this year probably due to the weather). 5 species of Butterfly and 5 species of Dragonfly seen made it the best invertebrate day so far this year.

  1. I’ve been meaning to go the Wetland Centre for a while, as I live not too far away. Bit put off by the ticket price, but I think I’ll go soon before our summer stops being so sunny!

    1. Yes it is quite pricey for a nature reserve but we have joined the Wildfowl and Wetlands trust who own the centre (£58 for two of us) so we only need to visit 5 times between us in a year and it has paid for itself plus you get magazine, reduced price visitors passes and access to any of the other centres in the UK
