Some recent photos of the Andromeda Galaxy
The Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million light years from Earth and is found in the constellation Andromeda. It is one of the brightest galaxies in the sky and can be seen with the naked eye, although a telescope is needed to reveal its true glory. It is the nearest spiral galaxy to our own and is moving towards us. It is predicted that the two galaxies will collide at some point between 3.75 and 4.5 billion years from now. The most likely outcome is that the two galaxies will merge to form one super-galaxy.
