A cold spring morning

A walk around the Tarn this morning. It felt pretty cold, although the temperature was actually around 7C. Needless to say, there were no early butterflies on the wing but there was a lot of bird activity. Highlights were a Little Grebe, scuttling away into the vegetation, already showing itself well on its way into breeding plumage and a small group of Redwing in the trees by the bridge. I imagine they will soon go north to their breeding grounds.

Good numbers of Mallard and Tufted Ducks were present, but geese were in short supply with only 1 Egyptian goose on the tarn and a single Greylag feeding on the golf course.

This Grey Squirrel seemed intent on keeping his eye on me as I passed his tree.
