The new stamps released to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton to Darlington Railway.
Featured locomotives:
- Locomotion No. 1 – Stevenson locomotive, built 1825, the first steam locomotive to pull a passenger train on the Stockton and Darlington Railway
- Rocket – built 1829 Stevenson locomotive that won the Rainhill Trials
- City of Truro – a Great Western railway locomotive built in 1903. Some records suggest that it was the first steam locomotive to travel over 100mph
- Mallard – LNER locomotive designed by Sir Nigel Greasley. In 1938 it broke the record for steam train speed at 126mph, a record that still stands today
- Duchess of Hamilton – LMS locomotive built in 1938
- Evening Star – a BR standard class engine, the last steam engine to be built by BR in1960.

I’m impressed by those speed records, especially for the City of Truro locomotive, as it doesn’t appear very streamlined.
