Where has all the water gone?

As I had an appointment yesterday in Chislehurst, I thought I would go and spend some time by the pond on the common. Sadly when I arrived it was completely dry with no water and no birds.

Originally cut for gravel extraction, the pond is not part of a river system and relies on rain and run off from the land to keep it topped up. It was a clear indication of just how dry the South East of England has been lately.
