Autumn walk along the Thames

Last week Keith and I revisited one of our favourite walks along the Thames at Gravesend. We started at Town Pier and made our way along the promenade.

The tide was already well in and only Gulls could be seen. These were almost all Black-headed Gulls but we did find a single Common Gull

A little way further along we found a Pied Wagtail on the grass

Reaching the marina entrance, we turned and walked alongside the marina basin.

We found some incredible tame House Sparrows, who allowed us to walk right up to them, whilst they searched amogst the vegitation

And then onto Gordon Gardens

There were the usual Moorhens, Black-headed Gulls and mallard on the lake.

A Coot was a bird that we don’t often see here

We sat for a while by the side of the lake and heard a Grey Wagtail call. We soon located it on the far side of the lake.

After lunch we visited the moat area between the Fort and Gordon Gardens in the hope of some autumn migration, but apart from the resident species we heard only a single Chiifchaff

Not the biggest list of species that we have recorded on our walks but it was just nice to get out and go for a walk.
