This afternoon went Birdwatching in NW Kent. The first stop was Bough Beech reservoir ( http://www.kentwildlifetrust.org.uk/reserves/bough-beech/ ) , a reserve run by Kent wildlife Trust (KWT). The reserve consists of a functioning water storage reservoir and the lands that’s urround it. A road cuts the northern end of the reservoir and makes an ideal observation point.

The reservoir water level was very high and apart from a good count of Great crested Grebe there was little of note. I searched the banks for Little Ringed Plover (2 had been seen on Saturday) as this is one of a couple of places they nest in this area, but with no luck. The most bird activity was around the visitor centre on the feeders (Great and Blue Tits; Chaffinches; Dunnocks and House Sparrows) and on the pool (Northern Shoveller).

So onto the KWT reserve at Sevonoaks ( http://www.wildlifetrusts.org/reserves/sevenoaks ), This is a reserve of lakes and woodland created from old quarry workings.

Walked down to Tyler hide and was rewarded with distant views of 2 Little Ringed Plovers on one of the Islands. Returning to the centre I saw a Chiffchaff in front of Grebe hide together with a Goldcrest and a Wren.

???????????????????????????????

Chiffchaff and Little Ringed Plover are both summer migrants to the UK so maybe spring really is on its way!

A Common Buzzard was seen at West Kingsdown on the way home. These are becoming commoner in NW Kent and are regularly reported from Bromley area.

In all 43 species seen which considering not many migrant birds were seen was pretty satisfying
