One of my favourite Starling stories concerns a town where the starlings roosted under the railway bridge. the town council spent lots of money trying to find ways of preventing or dissuading the starlings from roosting there and then suddenly over a period of months the roost disappeared completely. The town rejoiced and six weeks later the bridge fell down!
