The colder weather has set in and Autumn has finally arrived on the patch and the last week has seen a change in bird activity in the area. There have been parties of Long-tailed Tits; Goldfinches and Chaffinches visiting the garden (all of which have been absent for most of the summer). The Starlings have returned and a party of 20 flew over the garden at dusk this afternoon. Also the Ring-necked Parrakeets are appearing in larger numbers as they make their way to the winter roost at Hither Green (about 2 miles from here)
Still no signs of the winter thrushes (Redwing and Fieldfare) yet but I wouldn’t expect to see them until the weather turns to winter and the natural food supply becomes scarcer
