A first for London

News broke last week that for the first time since they first arrived in the 17th century, the Pelicans have bred in St James Park in the middle of London. The Pelicans first arrived in 1664 as a gift from the Russian ambassador to King Charles II. They became a permanent feature of the park in 1897.

But they have never bred before until now. The chicks were born a month ago and are currently living in a non-public part of the park until they are big enough to join the resident flock of 6 adult birds.
