March dawns and its time for the first invertebrate surveys on my patch. So on a rare sunny day I took the opportunity to get the first survey done.

In the gardens there was little activity although a pair of magpies have already started nesting in a tree near my house. I did find a bush with a number of 7-spotMov Ladybirds, no doubt brought out by the sudden increase in temperature.

Moving on to the Tarn, there was a sound blast. Geese don’t do anything quietly and they become very fractious at this time of year. they spend a lot of their time chasing each other away and they make a lot of noise doing it.

One Greylag Goose in particular seemed to be angry with the world and was chasing all the other geese that came near and even managed a hiss at me as I was taking it’s photo

As I was walking along the side of the Tarn, I recorded my first Butterfly of the year, a male Brimstone. But it was gone in a flash. no doubt making the most of the warm weather to feed. I also found a Green Shield Bug and a couple of Buff-tailed Bumblebee Queens, prospecting for new nest sites,

A good start to the recording year and hoping the weather holds for the weeks to come.
