The beginning of September marks the beginning of the Autumn bird migration. Having heard that 3 species of migrating Sandpipers (Common, Green and Wood) were at the London Wetland Centre, I set off in search of them.
I soon located a Common Sandpiper on an island in front of Dulverton Hide
Moving onto WWF hide there was another Common Sandpiper in view
The next stop was the Tower Hide. A family of Hobbies were present and one juvenile found a perching point on the island in the scrape.
It took about an hour but eventually I located the Green Sandpiper on the wader scrape.
So 2 out of 3 species seen but the Wood Sandpiper was not seen that day (or since) so it would seemed that it had moved on before I got there. So not a bad day and the Hobbies were an unexpected bonus.
